Along with an experienced background in design, Amber has been the program and organizational leader for Games Overlay and Venue Development, Look of the Games, and Wayfinding and Signage programs at several Olympic Games and large-scale sport events. It was during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, when the disaster in Haiti occurred, that Amber first recognized the potential for using games venue development and operations in disaster management planning, response, and recovery.

Her design experience started at MHTN Architects in Salt Lake City, where she worked for 11 years in design and was a Senior Associate. During her tenure at MHTN, Amber was assigned to work in Venue Development on the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games, where she worked for 2 years in venue planning, site management, and operations. In 2006, the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games recruited Amber from MHTN as a Senior Manager in Venue Development/Overlay for Ice and Non-Competition Venues. Here, she led a team on multiple venues, development of site management standards, and operations. From Vancouver Amber was recruited to manage the delivery and operations for the Asian Cup in Qatar, then to London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, where she was the Lead Project Manager for the Olympic Stadium where the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Athletics Competition were held. After London, Amber went to Toronto as the Director of Games Overlay and Venue Development for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games where she developed standards and venue development planning. In 2013, she was recruited to be the Head of Overlay and Venue Development in Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, transitioning to a consultant in 2015 to mentor and support a delivery by the local Brazilian teams.

The many natural disasters and terrorist activities over the past decade inspired Amber to complete a master’s program in Crisis and Emergency Management. She focused her studies on finding ways to integrate her experience in design, events, venue development, and operations to disaster management. Currently, while continuing her consulting work on major games and events, she has been working on several projects to develop a new process for sheltering development by merging events and operations planning with disaster and shelter management.
